Wade January 22, 1973- Norma L McCorvey (Jane Roe) v. Henry Wade. The Supreme Court ruled that a state law making abortion a criminal offense violated a womans right to privacy. The Roe decision outraged anti abortion groups who railed under The Right to Life and fought for the rights of the fetus. The anti abortion groups took advantage of the conservative wing of the Republican Party and persuaded Congress in 1976 to ban the use of federal funds to finance abortions for women with low incomes.
