In 1984, there was no privacy at this country because the big brother was watching everthing. They were not able to say anything oppose his believes. Thus, Winston found that there is only one place where he can express that he is against the government system. In addition, Winston said: “we shall meet in the place where there is no darkness.” (page 25), in other words, nature is a place where he will be away from any discrepancies and from any surveillance. As it says in the novel: "War is peace / freedom is slavery / ignorance is strength. " (page 4) Out of nature, people ignore what they see in order to live without any tormenting. Although, the second place that resemble to the nature is the room that Winston rents with Julia. He described by: "The room was a world; a pocket of the past where extinct animals could walk." This means that the past looks like the pre-revolution which the life was much better, safer, liberal and simple than post- revolution. Part L Nature is where passion intimacy bonding occurs. (hiding place) Nature in this novel seems like a place where passion intimacy bonding occurs. Winston and Julia fell in love. They were not able to express their love or do any sexual relation in the town because of the screens that where everywhere. As Winston said before: “There’s no telescreen!” (page 100). In the town where everyone is watched, the sex instinct is considered to be a dangerous for the Party and creates a “direct, intimate connection between chastity and political orthodoxy” (111). Sex is an act of outright rebellion. All enjoyable sex must be in a place where the act is supposed to be free of pleasure.
