TERRESTRIAL PLANETS                                 06/01/09 Tuesday 06/01/09 The Northern hemisphere is closest to the sun in the Winter (January 3 rd ). The Northern hemisphere is farthest from the sun in the Summer Australia in the southern hemisphere is closest to the sun in the Summer and farthest in the winter, explains why the Artic is colder then the Antarctic It is still cold because the distance from the sun has little to do with the temperature of the earth. March equinox = everyplace on the earth has approximately 12 hours of sunshine and 12 hours of darkness Summer Solstice = Northern hemisphere is in the sunlight (gives us the longest daylight hours) Get a little more then 12 hours of sunshine in the summer September Equinox = 12 hours in sunshine again everywhere in the world Winter Solstice = we are in the dark, instead of getting 12 hours of sunshine we are getting a little less than 9 hours of sunlight. The sun in winter is impinging on the earth in a low tragectory The income is distributed over a larger area of the earth = doesn’t heat up as much Heliocentric Perspective of the universe = look at the sun as immovable and watch the planets as they move relative to the immovable sun. Re-introduced to us because it was known to the ancient Greeks and probably others before them Geocentric Perspective - viewed the Earth as immovable and other planets orbited around it. It is possible to hold this view and do the measurements according to this perspective Plants whose orbits might cause them to collide with earth, switch to either above or below the Earth as soon as their orbit crosses its path with Earth’s orbit

People like to regard it as: Having No size or place Little planet orbiting around the nucleous of an atom (example of a physics model) Quantum Mechanics: Nothing is certain Things can happen spontaneously Tuesday 13/01/09 Do galaxies form the black holes within them through time by absorbing stars into the interior part and then eventually building up a black hole, or were the black holes there before the galaxies started attracting stars & gasses?
