In recent years, college sports have become extremely popular in the U.S. Each March, millions of people watch a college basketball tournament popularly known as "March Madness," in which teams representing more than 60 colleges compete for a national championship. Several football bowl games held annually in early January also enjoy a great deal of attention and high television ratings. College athletics is a billion dollar industry and has been for a long time. Due to the increasing ratings of college athletics, this figure will continue to rise. It’s simple: bigger, faster, stronger athletes will generate more money. College Universities generate so much revenue during the year that it is only fair to the players that they get a cut. College athletes should get paid based on the university’s revenue, apparel sales, and lack of spending money. In an article I readx by Reed Karaim “In addition to revenue from ticket sales and television advertising, the NCAA has deals with more than 30 companies to license official NCAA merchandise, including video games and clothing. The NCAA Website states that the organization's corporate relationships "provide funding and expertise to, fan interactive experiences and scholarship programs for student-athletes, in addition to promoting the excitement of the NCAA's championships." The NCAA earns about $4 billion in licensing fees each year. The discussion of if college athletes should or shouldn’t be paid while they are in school. The first thing opponents say is, “They’re already getting a scholarship! That’s more than anybody else! Don’t be greedy!” Fine, let’s not be greedy and look at how much a scholarship is actually worth. On
