Transport in the Proximal Tubule Reabsorption of 80% of solutes and water occurs in proximal tubule. 80% of NaCl and water are reabsorbed in the PT. Reabsorption is isoosmotic . All glucose and amino acids are reabsorbed in PT. This termed obligatory reabsorption of solute and water.

Transport in Distal Nephron Segments Remaining reabsorption of solute and water occurs in distal nephron segments (loop of Henle, Distal Tubule and Collecting Duct). This is termed Facultative reabsorption. Transport in distal tubule and collecting duct is finely regulated by hormones to meet the needs of the body.
