It is a key stone in the instruction of the 19th century Novel and the Victorian Novel. You can’t say I know the English Novel or 19thcentury novel or I know the Victorian Novel without having read Jane Austen, and you cannot know Jane Austen without having readPride and Prejudice. The date of thePride and Prejudiceis 1813, The Victorian period is the period between 1837 and 1901, the dates of the Victorian Novel are the same dates of the Queen Victoria reign and gets its name from Queen Victoria. In order to understand the Victorian Period you need to have in your mind the periods facts that surrounded by. The period that comes before the Victorian period is the regency period which is the earliest part of the 19thcentury and the latest part of the 18thcentury. The 19th century consist of two parts; the Regency and the Victorian, but even before the Regency we have the 18th century which is divided into 3 parts: The Age of Rationalism, the AugustanAge 1700-1750, it is all about the mind, systems, control, everything making sense, rationalism. Then after the 1750 to the end of 18thcentury is about the exact opposite emotions and feelings, the Age of Sensibility, Romanticism, is born during the second half of the 18thcentury so the Victorian Novel will be affected by all these values that come before it, if you look at various period of literature one following after the other you will see that each new period in literature tense to come as a reaction to what happened before it so the Victorian is a reaction to the 18th century and the Edwardian period which comes after is a reaction to the Victorian period then modern period then postmodern period. Every new period comes out of a feeling of unrest, a feeling that need something new and different to happen. It is usually a very radical step to distance yourself from what you know from that what usually save. The 18th century is characterized as being the period of change, great term, great economic development because since the age of renaissance they have been exchanging goods with the rest of the world, dominating the rest of the world and they are in good economic state and everything is changing not only in their position in the world but also England is being into change. The greatest thing in the 18thcentury is the agriculture revolution, England is growing, its population is growing and a fear comes to them that there will not be enough food to feed everyone.
