Elections #7 Do American’s Make the Rational Choice? How do presidential candidates focus their strategies to win the nomination and later the election? We often see candidates (those already involved in national politics; which is common) remove themselves from controversial votes in their respective area of government (primarily the House and Senate). Is this to hide their political opinions? Or is it a preemptive defense strategy to give their opponents less to attack them with. All of these things are geared towards influencing the voters to give them their vote. However, are the American people rational voters? Do the patterns make any sense? To answer this question I feel that you have to block off a certain time period, because the views of the American people and the needs of the country have changed dramatically has time as gone by. I will use the time that I have been affected by, meaning the last thirty or so years. So, my answer the question of whether or not the American voters are rational in their decisions is yes; recently the American people have looked for strong leaders who believe strongly in their beliefs. The most recent example of this would be the last elections.
