2 What is cloning? Inserting a piece of foreign DNA into a bacteria, yeast, or other host cell. This is different than a “cloned” animal that is a genetic replica of some progenitor Idea is to insert genes or pieces of DNA into a foreign host to assist in characterization Can also use these to “make” proteins
