CMPT 250 : QUIZ 3 1. (15 marks) A proposed instruction set includes instructions which employ the following address modes: direct, indexed, and relative. Each instruction uses a format with fields as follows: Instruction(15. .12): OPCODE Instruction(11. .10): MODE Instruction(9. .8)): REGISTER OPERAND Instruction(7. .0): ADDRESS or OFFSET 1. For each address mode, explain how the address of the data value is obtained. 2. Draw an ASM diagram for the fetch cycle of a simple processor which determines the effective address of the operand and places it in a register called MAR before proceeding to the execute cycle. Assume that two CPU clock cycles are needed to retrieve a value from memory and that the value returned from memory is placed first in a buffer register called MDR. You should also include a PC register in your diagram. 3. Draw a logic diagram of the datapath required to retrieve operands as specified by your fetch cycle. Use any additional registers or combinational components as required, and show all data flow paths
