Using light years or parsecs can be more useful, because you can reduce the use of such a large number, when explaining or writing the distances. 2) One astronomical unit is about 1.5 x 10^8 km. Explain why this is the same as 1500 x 10^5 km and 1.5 x 10^11 m. Because they all come out to be the same answer of 150,000,000 3) If one star is 40 times brighter than another star, how many magnitudes brighter is it? Each magnitude is 2.5 times brighter. So it would be about 4 magnitudes in difference. 4) What causes the seasons on Earth? The seasons are caused by the dates when the sun crosses four points, Vernal equinox, Summer solstice, Autumnal equinox and Winter solstice. 5) Venus is never more than 47 degrees above the horizon at sunset. What does this tell us about the orbit of Venus? This means that its orbit is closer to the Sun than earths.
