Week 7 Discussion Questions 1. The writers this week come from a few different cultural backgrounds. How do you think culture and ethnicity influence a woman’s writing? Culture stems from the development and transmission of human belief in symbols. Ethnicity provides the environment for which people develop in, and which will in turn affect the way a person views the world and how they see things. I think that the culture and ethnicity combined definitely influenced all the authors’ writings from this week. I noticed that in Jhumpa Lahir’s A Temporary Matter the characters all had uncommon names such as Shoba and Shukumar. These names might have not been uncommon to the writer because of her culture but this is a very easy way to show how culture affects writers. Another example of this influence would be Helena Maria Viramontes first book The Moths and Other Stories , which established her reputation as an important member of the vital, evolving Chicana literary tradition (Gilbert & Gubar, 2007). I also thought that they family in this story seemed like they were very connected.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
