The Etruscans – 675-30 BC (assimilated) - Iron Age people who occupied Rome from 625-509 BC. - Evolved from the Villanovans in the Tuscany area. - Considered to be the most religious of the ancient Mediterranean peoples. - They were from Etruria, a confederation of 12 city-states in modern-day Tuscany  and Umbria. -Convened at Velzna (modern-day Orvieto) at the Fanum Voltumnae - The Etruscans were fatalists; they believed they would live for 8-10 ciculum. - They believed in divining, they thought they could tell the future by looking at the  lumps in a sheep’s liver. Piacenza liver.  - Their usage of necropolaeis suggests that they believed in the afterlife. -Were advanced in gender equality compared to their ancient counterparts  (evidence in tombs of women being in high social positions) -Trade items: wool, wine, iron, copper

Villanovans – 1000-675 BC - A people of the Iron Age. - Named after the Villanovan site in Northern Italy. - They were metalworkers who migrated into Italy from central  Europe, presumably looking for metal. - They evolved into the Etruscans. -One of the 'Urnfield' cultures, due to their use of urns for  cremated remains -lived in small villages -Used Impasto ware (fired at high temperature with sandy surface)
