Week 5 Discussion Questions Post a response to the following: Why is it important to simplify radical expressions before adding or subtracting? How is adding radical expressions similar to adding polynomial expressions? How is it different? Provide a radical expression for your classmates to simplify. Consider participating in the discussion by simplifying your classmates’ expressions. Detail what would have happened or if the expression was not simplified first. We have to simplify radical expressions before adding or subtracting them because we cannot combine them with contrasting terms. Additionally, simplifying radical expressions before adding or subtracting is important because it makes the problem easier to solve by factoring the radicand down to a prime number. This reduces the risk of mistakes because now we can add or subtract prime numbers rather than larger ones. Adding radical expressions is similar to adding polynomial expressions because we must add like terms. When working with radicals, we cannot combine the expression:
