Dr. Campbell Writing Workshop Reading Response #1 Reading Response In the two readings by Baldwin and Anzaldúa I found both of them very racially charged pieces. Personally I preferred Baldwin’s piece stylistically because it is a much more conventionally written piece. I also found that I could give Baldwin more credibility because while he attacked the racism of white men he did not attack white people as a whole, he showed some understanding towards white people, which Anzaldúa did not do. She attacked Europeans for forcing Catholicism and other sects of Christianity on people, and she also attacked men for demeaning female goddesses to push the male gods to the top of the hierarchy. Throughout her entire piece she never made even the slightest notion of understanding of the reasons behind everyone’s actions. While I do not doubt that she has lived a difficult life, when trying to make an argument about something, or even just presenting your own opinion on something. I have always found it effective to show some credit to the other side’s argument or
