BIS-445: Lab 2 Designing Star Schema Overview eYou are a systems analyst working for a industrial supply company. You need to develop a data warehouse application to be used for analyzing orders, vendors and products. You will need to design the fact and dimension tables in Visio, based upon the requirements provided. The fact and dimension tables are the core of the data warehouse. Facts store the data that is used by the business for analysis and decision making. The dimensions contain the related records which qualify the fact data. As you can see in the diagram below, FactOrders contains all of the order specific data. However, in order to determine which vendor or product name is associated with a specific order, we must reference the dimensions.

How To Do It You can complete this lab on your home computer if you have MS Visio 2007. If you don’t have MS Visio, you can complete this lab on our remote server. The lab instructions are essentially the same, except for where you save files if you are on our remote server. We’ve also included remote server login steps in these instructions. 1. Go to www.lab.devry.edu . You should get this screen: 2. Enter your User Name and password into the Login screen, and then select Log In. (Your username is your D number, your password is your yyyymm birthdate. You should get this screen:
