Unformatted text preview: ESSAY #3: Facing Life’s Challenges – The Short Story/Poetry Unit We have all faced some problem in our lives whether we felt some degree of discrimination or unfair treatment or have found ourselves in a situation that was particularly traumatic or overwhelming. Perhaps the curve balls that life has thrown us made us react in ways that surprised us or we faced serious adversity and were unsure how to find a solution. These difficult life challenges have been the topic of countless literary texts over the centuries and in this unit, we will discuss five short stories and four poems that explore everything from racial profiling and image consciousness to gender roles and addiction.
