    Lecture Goals Understand how meiosis can create new combinations of alleles on a  single chromosome A.  Define  and  relate  DNA, gene, allele, chromosome, chromatid, locus B.  Draw  the same chromosome in the replicated and unreplicated state,  explain  why both structures represent a single chromosome, and then  label  the sister chromatids in the replicated chromosome. C.  Define  and  relate  ploidy, chromosome, chromatid (sister and non-sister),  homologs, and gametes within the context of meiosis D.  Diagram  the major events in meiosis for a diploid organism (see Figure  12.2),  labeling  each stage with “n” or  2n E.  Describe  the fundamental differences between mitosis and meiosis (Fig  12.5 and Table 12.3)
