PSYCHOLOGY PRELIM 2 STUDY SHEET Chapter 2: Nervous System Sodium potassium pumps are needed in neurons because without them the neurons would be  filled with sodium ions unable to fire. There are 4 kinds of neurons: motor neurons, sensory neurons, inter-neurons, and projection  neurons. Neurons  are specialized cells that convey info into the brain, carry out the operations involved in  thought feeling and action, and transmit commands out into the body to control muscles and  organs. Cell body = soma Chapter 4: Drugs And Addiction Opiates have their own receptors Depressants reduce activity in nervous system Stimulants increase activity in NS Dopamine as a motivated chemical agent is linked to concepts of reward and reinforcement. THC= comes form cannabis sativa.  Chapter 10: The body senses and movement Proprioception = it’s a body sense that tells us about the position and movement of our bodies. Vestibular sense = gives info about head position and movement-helps us maintain balance. Reflexive movement = sneezes, knee jerks, eye blink—involuntary
