Markers mean nothing unless there is a social means, laws and practices make race. Institutions reinforce racial inequality, immigrant groups have to "fir in" [Race Invaders] -Immigrants in the early 1900's were debated by law makers -immigrants took the most jobs. "no one wanted jobs". This creates the slums. 87% of mining industry were immigrants in 1910. Davenport - 1911 "Skin color, physical appearance will change role of immigrants." Scientific Race Theory - broke down European countries for studying -Justification for white Americans to treat immigrants however they wanted. Even Jewish men were victims of lynching. 1910 The Melting Pot term coined absolutely never melted people of color or minorities, who were "wood as fire for the pot."
