In what ways are they similar? How are they different? Which theory most closely resembles your way of thinking about how children grow and develop cognitively? Why? Piaget and Vygotsky both had their own views when it came to cognitive development, but they also had some similarities between their theory’s. Piaget emphasized on the theory that children were a product of their environment. Essentially, they developed to adapt to the environment around them. Her proposed that this happened in four different stages and that learning was not possible until the child was developmentally ready to receive information and learn from it. The four stages in Piaget’s theory are Sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational and formal operational. Vygotsky saw children’s cognitive development differently.
