CDE 232 2/27/08 **Internalizing Problems-category of diagnosis that include problems regulating emotions, and these problems are expressed by some type of withdrawal symptoms- Depression- flu like symptoms (stomach aches, vomiting, breaking into a sweat), not doing the same things they use to enjoy, being significantly less active. kids must show symptomatology for two straight weeks in order to be diagnosed ,Another requirement is they cant have had a traumatic experience or it would be 6 weeks. Anxiety- excessive or irrational worry, sore backs and muscles, stomach aches, worry about things that should not be a big deal **Externalizing Problems- manifest difficulties with emotional regulations by acting out and punishing those around conduct disorder o hurting and killing animals; mean and spiteful things “who would do something like that?” o can become sex offenders later in life o almost impossible to engage them in any kind of conversation o difficult to treat o always negative
