Lecture Slides and Lecture Notes
Slides presented in lectures for Weeks 1 to 3 will be made available on Blackboard in
advance. From previous experience (through teaching evaluations in past years), the
lecture slides might prove to be more helpful in learning because they consolidate the main
points in the lecture notes.
Computing Tutorials and STAT292 Helpdesk
There are a number of repeat computing tutorials held in Weeks 2 and 3 to help you
become familiar with SAS, and the STAT292 Helpdesk is run from Week 2 onwards.

Assignment 0
Assignment 0 is due on Friday, 6 March 2020 at 11:59 PM . Note that Assignment
0 is not for credit, is not marked, and does not contribute toward your final grade. It is
intended to
• help you assess your comprehension of aspects of probability that are relevant to
STAT292 and
• familiarise you with the assignment submission system.
Be sure to carefully follow the assignment submission instructions, including the specifi-
cation that assignments must be submitted as a PDF. When submitting an assignment,
always check your submission to ensure that the PDF that you have uploaded appears as
you intended for it to appear.
Solutions for Assignment 0 will be released after the due date and time.

STAT292 Self-Directed Tutorial Week 1
The following is a brief self-directed tutorial to review and extend some of
what you learned about probability in STAT193.
In STAT193, you learned how to use software to calculate probabilities based on specific
probability distributions ( e.g. , binomial distribution, normal distribution). The intent
of this tutorial is to briefly review these probability distributions, as well as the Poisson
distribution, and to provide greater insight into probabilities based on these distributions.
