Psych 11/8/07 Stress: Those who think they have no time for learning how to deal with stress, will sooner or later have to find time to deal with illness. Stress is the biggest problem for people. What are three big psychology issues: rationality vs. irrationality, nature nurture. Stability vs. change. When we are stressed, we are more irrational. Our rationality can help us cope with our stress. Stress affect emotions but emotions also affect stress. Tendency to be stressed out comes from learning for your parents or gained for birth. Change may cause stress, stability can help stress. Stress: overwhelmed, worrying, too busy, no time, too much to do, obstacles you don’t know how to deal with. Movie “My Life”: Stress: Compare two reactions of two people in the same situation: Little kid lets go while the guy cannot. The kid wants more while the guy is asking when it will end. Experience with the roller coaster causes them to view it differently. Stress: The process by which we perceive and respond to certain events, called stressors,
