Dawn Pullen4-2 Journal: Individual PerceptionsConflict can occur in any situation or in any organization. Most times, workplace behaviors are influenced by individual perception and when conflict occurs in the workplace, individual perception is important. There is always three sides to every story, one person, the opposing person and the truth is somewhere in between. That’s because individual perception brings on different views of a situation, which result in conflict. Now, in normal circumstances, discussion is normally the answer, “However, increased communication can also bring complexity and confusion, and may make things worse” (Arvinen-Muondo & Kogan, 2013). As a leader in my department, I would first openly listen to both sides from each individual and try to determine what actually happened while being impartial. To be effective in resolving conflict I will need to work with the other parties involved in the conflict to clarify perceptions of the problem.
