Describe a time when you experienced a significant period of suffering. How did you deal
with that experience? How did you find comfort in the midst of suffering?
Back in 2017 I was married to a very selfish man that would do anything to belittle me. I had
been with this man since I was 15 years old and I did not know any better, I thought he was the
best for me. I had moved out of my hometown and stationed in San Diego, California and he
came along and I thought the change of environment would be good for us as a family. We have
a son and I wanted the best for all of us. Well to my surprise the move affected my husband at the
time, and he became even more violent, aggressive and manipulative than before. I was not
allowed to do much, and he would sit outside of my work to watch what I did every day. He
always found an excuse as to why he would not get a job and would just spend his time focused
on what I was doing. He would pick fights with some of my coworkers if he saw me talking to
them. In my head I would try to excuse his actions as normal. One day he got very drunk and
slammed me against the wall, all while our son watched. That day I decided that I had taken
