Study Plan
Prince Mate
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
I am a
Bachelor
’s graduate of M’hamed Bougara University. My final year project was ‘’Command of
a
doubly fed induction generator
(Scherbius structure) based wind turbine’’ that is; Building
a
matlab/simulink model of the turbine, (DFIG) and applying the field oriented vector control scheme of
the active and reactive power on the model. During my research I noticed there was a variation on the
voltage output due to variations of the wind speed on the turbine which prompted a further need
to study different ways which can be used to stabilize the voltage output like using multilevel
semiconductor switches and introducing different methods allowing for compensation with reactive
power and to filter off load current harmonics resulting from the complex static inverters.
MY PROPOSED
MASTER'S
PROJECT IS
;
“The design and implementation of an optimal control
scheme of the power quality generated from an integrated
wind and solar farm’’
. The primary
area of research being focused on the design of power electronic system/scheme that will be used
to reduce or eliminate harmonics in the power quality of the micro grid.
INTRODUCTION
Decentralized Production of Electrical energy will be the way of the future. Several sources of free and
renewable energies will play a pivotal role in this development namely, Solar (thermic or PV), wind
turbines. These are predominantly used in in the supply of energy in local isolated sites. Due to the
unpredictability and intermittent nature of wind and solar energy, the management of energy in isolated
grids in ensuring a constant supply of electricity poses a major headache for engineers across the globe.
