August 28, 2007 Dear Mrs. Young, I was born in West Lafayette, Indiana on April 24, 1989. In that hospital room emerged a baby with aspirations of one day being able to attend the prestigious university of Virginia Tech. After eighteen years here I sit in Communication Skills basking in the glory of my accomplishment. How did I do it you ask? Well it was a combination of things but one reason tops them all. I have always been about a B student, but I have no bragging to do on the academic side of my life. Most people get into to Tech because they were one of the brightest in their high school class, but I had a different path and it’s called wrestling. Ever since fifth grade I have been wrestling and scheduling everything in my life around it. Every year it gets harder and takes more time and if I had a dime for every time I wanted to quit I would have paid for all four years of college. It’s overly demanding, straining, and the arguably the toughest sport to be competitive at. So why would anyone do it? I would ask why anyone wouldn’t do it. I can’t even begin to list all the things the sport has taught me. The most important lesson it taught me was that hard work certainly pays off somewhere, and somehow. Wrestling has helped me attend this University and has given me the opportunity to join the one percent of high school athletes who participate in Division 1 athletics. When I do have time off, I enjoy being a regular teenage kid. I don’t have any special hobbies like most people. Most people have some hidden talent that is
