A 1-m 3 volume of water is contained in a rigid container. Estimate the change in the volume of the water when a piston applies a pressure of 35 MPa. 2. If the pressure of a fluid increases from 1 bar to 100 bar at constant temperature, find the corresponding change in fluid volume if: a. The fluid is gas. b. The fluid is liquid (E v = 20000×l0 5 N/m2). Surface Tension 3. Estimate the excess pressure inside a raindrop having a diameter of 3 mm. Assume water surface tension to be 7.34 x 10- 2 N/m. 4. A 12-mm diameter jet of water discharges vertically into the atmosphere. Due to surface tension the pressure inside the jet will be slightly higher than the surrounding atmospheric pressure. Determine this difference in pressure. Assume water surface tension to be 7.34 x 10- 2 N/m.
