An explanation of my thoughts on how psychopathology and diagnosis have entered mainstream public discourse I believe that technology has played a major part in helping psychopathology and diagnosis enter mainstream public discourse. According to research conducted by Pew Research Center, about 68% of Americans have smartphones and 45% have tablet computers ready available to capture events happening in the world (Anderson, 2015). With almost every tragic event in the world being captured live and broadcast on the various social media outlets, I believe it has heighten the need to gain understanding and answers around individuals behavior. I also believe there has been an increase of research and studies that have helped with the ability to properly assess and treat behaviors that may have been misdiagnosed or overlooked because of lack of knowledge. Technology has allowed this knowledge to be readily available at our fingertips as well as topic of conversation. Then explain the potential negative and positive impact of this mainstream discourse on those living with a psychiatric diagnosis:
