It had led to immense human suffering because of job losses and a decline in the standards of living. As a result, people turned into communism as a way of finding hope. This is because there was an emergence of activism by American communists on social, economic, and political issues that affected all nationals, from native Americans to immigrants and residents of mixed racial descent. This became a strong movement that the president, Truman, saw it fit to tame the rising communism. As such, they instituted a Cold war foreign policy known as the Federal-Loyalty Security Program in 1947. The policy was to grant power to federal heads to fire employees who exhibited communist traits, as it was a sign of disloyalty. The positive effect is that it aided in economic growth.
