Thora Alcendor Guilty by Association Effect The main hypothesis of the article was that the authors believed that GBAE occurs because associates fail to take perspective which makes them think lower of their social standing. The authors did six different experiments using different methods. The study they used 97 students and had them read a scenario that pair of friends and an associate from work were having small talk and the offender (the friend) began to pick their nose and the associate noticed. Participants were either the associate of the offender or the associate who noticed, the participants who classified as the associate were told to rate how the observers rate the offensive from positive or negative, and the observers rated the associates and the offenders. The second study used 130 associates and 65 observers, the associate participants were given a fake questionnaire about their personalities that would say pair of associates was either friends or strangers with the other person who had either cheated in some way or was a
