NTR 315: Nutrition Through the Life Cycle Spring 2010, Unique # 55115 Instructor: Lydia Steinman, MA, RD, LD Office: GEA 30C Phone: 232-3363 E-mail: [email protected] Office hours: Mon / Wed 9:30-10:30 am and 2-3 pm, or by appointment Teaching Assistant :Katie Anding Office: Pai 6.04 E-mail [email protected] Office Hours: Tuesdays 3:30 – 4:30 pm, or by appointment Course Objective Upon completion of this course the student should be able to apply basic nutrition knowledge to evaluate the rationale for nutritional needs throughout the life cycle. Textbook: Brown, J, Nutrition Through the Life Cycle , Wadsworth, 3rd Ed., 2008 - For students who do not want to purchase the text, several copies are reserved in the Life Science Library (Main Building) for check out (2 hours at a time). Blackboard: http://courses.utexas.edu Syllabus, lecture slides (pdf format), study objectives, announcements, online quizzes and quiz grades will be posted on Blackboard . Group e-mails to class members are not allowed and will be blocked. A discussion board entitled “Class Communication Center” has been set up on Blackboard for you to communicate with fellow class members. e-Gradebook: https://utdirect.utexas.edu/diia/egb Grades for exams and extra credit will be posted on e-Gradebook. Exams There will be 3 midterm exams (50 multiple-choice questions) and one final exam (100 multiple-choice questions), each worth 200 points. Your 3 best exam scores will be used to calculate a total exam grade. The Final Exam is optional if you have taken all three midterm exams and are satisfied with your grades. The final exam will be comprehensive. No make-up exams will be given, unless you have a valid doctor’s office receipt or written excuse from a physician . Prior arrangements can be made with the Teaching Assistant to take the exam early. - In the event that you miss a midterm exam, you will be required to take the comprehensive final exam. - If you miss more than 1 exam, you will receive zero points for the 2 nd missed exam.

Examination policies While exams are in progress, all books, notebooks, papers, jackets, and personal effects must be placed as designated by the instructor. Nonprogrammable calculators may be used for examinations.
