1 Memory and Executive Function Memory Multiple types of memory Short-term, long-term Terminology can be confusing Executive Function Manipulation of information Initiation of behavior Organization, prioritization, complex attention (multi- tasking or allocating resources), planning Error monitoring Medial Temporal (Limbic-Hippocampus Entorhinal) Prefrontal Types of Memory Long-term Processed for retention over long periods of time Involves encoding, consolidation, storage and retrieval of information Requires hippocampus, medial temporal lobe Short Term Retained over brief periods in a “memory buffer” Can be manipulated or utilized When no longer used, it is forgotten (ie, looking up a phone #) Does not require hippocampus
