I. Effective Delivery (esp. in a speech) A. Appears “Natural” 1. When you sound forced it does not tend to come across effective because people may think that you are not sincere. a. How do you get the “natural” feel? You have to know what you are going to say before you get there. Script everything, you have memorized everything you are about to say (danger in that is that the people who do this come across less natural because there is room for error) 2. Reinforces (not distracts from) message a. Things you don’t realize often distract (little behaviors you do to help calm you down when you are nervous) mannerisms. b. Appearance (if there is something off about the way you appear) c. Words you use (too many um’s, oh’s, etc.) 3. Is varied (not monotonous) a. Go up and down in tone, ask questions, etc. 4. Demonstrates immediacy a. Involvement in the conversation, signals that you are there, present and alive. “I am with you I am listening, I am here” b. Using ways to establish connection, often
