Consequences of Malpractice Crisis 1.Doctors practice defensive medicine. Examples? Adds $1.5 billion/year. o Unnecessary tests o Unnecessary procedures (Caesarean section) o 2.High malpractice premiums passed on to consumer 3.Creates tensions/bitterness between doctors and patients 4. High malpractice premiums mean that some doctors stop offering services (like obstetrical services) 5.Acrimony between doctors and lawyers
