Years 1 and 2 Years 3 and 4 Critiques of Medical Education Curriculum 1. Too little emphasis on teaching 2. Curriculum is not integrated 3. Heavy emphasis to memorize facts (passive learning) rather than on learning problem solving/analytic skills (active learning) Also, little emphasis on the sociocultural aspects of health and individuals’ health behaviors, communication skills, and reflection on ethical questions 4. Continues to focus on acute health problems, when the majority of deaths (about 75%) are due to chronic disease. Largely ignores the importance of: o preventive health care o lifestyle education o
