Colorado Model Content Standards – Economics STANDARD 1: Students understand that because of the condition of scarcity, decisions must be made about the use of scarce resources. Related GIC Issue Portals: Energy Efficiency Global Warming Emissions Trading Mapping the Standard to GIC: The foundational economic principle of scarcity comes alive in GIC by allowing students to see tangible, current, examples of this abstract principle. Students can do more than simply doing a keyword search for “global warming.” Rather they can browse the energy efficiency, global warming or emissions trading issue portals and be presented with information that illustrates the trade-offs between our current consumption levels and environmental quality. Teachers can use this information to discuss opportunity costs, effective use of resources and economic incentives. Appropriate for grades 6-12 Colorado Model Content Standards – Civics STANDARD 3.3: Students understand the domestic and foreign policy influence the United States has on other nations and how the actions of other nations influence politics and society of the United States. Related GIC Issue Portals: Iraq War Israeli-Palestinian Conflict North Korea: Nuclear And Missile Programs Nuclear Proliferation Mapping the Standard to GIC:
