Colorado Model Content Standards – Economics STANDARD 1: Students understand that because of the condition of scarcity, decisions must be made about the use of scarce resources. Related GIC Issue Portals: Energy Efficiency Global Warming Emissions Trading Mapping the Standard to GIC: The foundational economic principle of scarcity comes alive in GIC by allowing students to see tangible, current, examples of this abstract principle. Students can do more than simply doing a keyword search for “global warming.” Rather they can browse the energy efficiency, global warming or emissions trading issue portals and be presented with information that illustrates the trade-offs between our current consumption levels and environmental quality. Teachers can use this information to discuss opportunity costs, effective use of resources and economic incentives. Appropriate for grades 6-12 Colorado Model Content Standards – Civics STANDARD 3.3: Students understand the domestic and foreign policy influence the United States has on other nations and how the actions of other nations influence politics and society of the United States.
