STUDY GUIDE FOR EXAM 1 BIOL 2420 FALL 2009 Exam 1 will cover chapters 1-3. Chapter 1: unifying “themes” in microbiology Chapter 2: basic chemistry as it pertains to biology/microbiology Chapter 3: methods for studying microbes - cultivation and microscopy The exam will have 36 multiple choice or T/F questions. You will have 60 min to complete it. You must bring a Scantron form and a number 2 pencil to class. We will begin the test within the first 10 min of class. After you take the exam, you are free to leave the room, BUT DO NOT leave the campus. We will then have another lecture(s) (chapter 4 and then maybe start chapter 5, if time permits). This is how you should study. First, read over ALL PowerPoint slides from every chapter. This is a total of 28 + 36 + 38 = 102 slides. Give yourself 45-60 min for this. Second, if you missed any one question on our quiz, this indicates a weakness in that area. Go back and fine tune your knowledge. Some more specific things to focus on are: chapter 1: unifying “themes” in microbiology - know and understand the major branches of microbiology (slide 3) (i.e. you should know constitutes
