The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints http://www.ldsces.org/ The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized April 6, 1830 in Fayette New York with Joseph Smith as its first prophet and president. It began with 6 original members and now has a membership of over 13 million. The Church is currently headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. However, its members can be found worldwide with over half of its membership residing outside of the United States. Central to the belief of Latter- day Saints is their faith in Jesus Christ. Latter-day Saints believe in the Bible and additional scripture, including the Book of Mormon, from which the nickname "Mormons" is derived. They believe in modern prophets, hence an open canon of scripture. They believe that the family is central to God's plan. Latter-day Saint parents teach their children to observe God's commandments, and also to be law abiding citizens and to serve their fellow men in all walks of life.
