The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized April 6, 1830 in Fayette New York with Joseph Smith as its first prophet and president. It began with 6 original members and now has a membership of over 13 million. The Church is currently headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. However, its members can be found worldwide with over half of its membership residing outside of the United States. Central to the belief of Latter- day Saints is their faith in Jesus Christ. Latter-day Saints believe in the Bible and additional scripture, including the Book of Mormon, from which the nickname "Mormons" is derived. They believe in modern prophets, hence an open canon of scripture. They believe that the family is central to God's plan. Latter-day Saint parents teach their children to observe God's commandments, and also to be law abiding citizens and to serve their fellow men in all walks of life. The Presbyterian and Disciples of Christ Mission: To help create a better world for all, by sharing the love of Jesus Christ. In worship: we honor the God who created a good world and empowers us as co-creators. In study: we learn about Jesus, whose life is our example and whose death and resurrection are our hope. In fellowship: we have fun together, finding joy in our relationship with God and with each other. In service: we work with the Church Universal for the well-being of all. St. Augustine Church – The Catholic Student Center The primary mission of the Catholic Church is to spread the message of Jesus Christ, found in the four Gospels (the story of Christ's life and teachings), and to administer sacraments that aid the spiritual growth of its members.
