What is Simple Linear Regression?
A statistical technique that allows you
to determine if a relationship exists
between 2 variables … and what that
relationship is
Attempts to model the relationship
between 2 variables by fitting a linear
equation to observed data
The process of fitting the best possible
straight line through a series of points
3
What is Simple Linear Regression?
Used to make predictions about a single
value
A way to examine how a factor (or
factors) influences a continuous
outcome measure
One variable considered to be an
independent (or explanatory or
predictor) variable; the other a
dependent (or criterion) variable
4
What is Simple Linear Regression?
Regression can be used to determine
the association between variables, but
it does NOT show causality
5
Regression Equation
The mathematical equation that can be
used to predict the values of one
dependent variable from known values
