Prompt 2 In today’s American society, skinny women are the ones getting the roles in movies, television programs, and ads. Skinny women are sexy and cool. Skinny people are the norm. Charisee Goodman states in her essay that “If a woman is perceived as having consumed too much food, she finds she has committed a social crime” (605). The social crime is being overweight. Most fat actresses don’t receive the bigger roles, like playing main characters, in movies or television programs. Secondly, some men care more about physical appearance than personality in women. Women and men are portrayed differently in television shows and movies. There are many more overweight men than women in some presentations that are portrayed as loveable. If a man is overweight, it is seen as being strong and powerful. A large woman is not portrayed this way.
