For the final project, I will be choosing the second scenario: Procure A New Software Vendor.The project has failed this far due to ITG not fulfilling what was originally promised. It’s clear that communication between the Waterloo Police Services and ITG has been lacking. It’s also clear that The Waterloo Police Services didn’t fully understand the scale of the software they were asking for from the beginning either. Towards the end of the project, federal laws changed so the software had to change as well. This would’ve delayed any project of this size. I believe that for this project, planning will be the easiest to influence as this is what determines the software vendor that will be chosen. Executing is generally the most resource demanding as this is part of the process where the project is actively being worked on. For this specific project, thisis after we’ve chosen a new vendor and have passed it off to them. Project Charter for Procure A New Software VendorOverview This is the charter for the Procure A New Software Vendor project.Project DescriptionDue to the current vendor not delivering the software, The Waterloo Police Services will need a new software vendor. New federal requirements have been added since the original project started so we will include the new requirements. Project PurposeThe purpose is to have a software that the entire Waterloo Police Services can use across all its different branches. The software will include all the new federal mandates, get the project back
on track, and update all the branches websites to meet the new inclusion and disability requirements. Business CaseThe new CMIS system will bring benefit to the police branches on multiple levels. The CanadianPolice Information System will be integrated with the CPIC module. This is a national crime registry for Canada. The new software will also update hardware and software with CAD and RMS systems. Business RequirementsMost importantly, the new software will allow the police branches to be compliant with new federal regulations. Next, this allows the police to have access to the national crime registry and it be integrated into their own systems. AssumptionsWith Chief Gravill giving an ideal timeline of 2 months and maximum of 5 months, it’s vital this kept. After 1 month, a more accurate timeline needs produced. Based on initial response from vendors, a new projected cost must be communicated to the team. Constraints The main constraint we will face in this project is time and budget.
