Lyttle 1 Maria Lyttle Introduction to Business Professor Seagren 5 October 2018 Whole Foods, a Publicly Traded Company Most people living in the United States have either been to or heard of Whole Foods. Whole Foods is a supermarket chain that focuses on selling organic, and wholesome products to its customers. Whole Foods has close to 500 stores scattered throughout the United States and the United Kingdom. They have even trademarked themselves as “America’s Healthiest Grocery Store”. On August 2, 2017, the Federal Trade Commission approved the merger between Amazon and Whole Foods. Whole Foods corporate culture has played a huge role in just how successful they have become. Competitive advantage is very telling when it comes to whether or not a specific company will be successful or eventually fail. Whole Foods is not large enough to directly compete with huge companies such as Walmart, Cosco, or Kroger, but thanks to its specific focus on organic and natural products it competes on a lesser scale with businesses such as Trader Joes and the Fresh Market. One worry is that the larger grocery stores will eventually make the move to being virtually all organic, and this could really hurt Whole Foods business. Brand identity is easily this company’s strongest advantage because they strive to achieve top quality products and the best customer service they can offer. These characteristics of the business really do put them at the top of the leaderboards in the organic and natural foods category. Whole Foods also strives to ensure that their employees are treated with respect and rewarded for all their hard work.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
