Soltanian-zadeh Fall 2009 Digital Image Processing Assignment #5- Wavelet and Image Compression Problem 1 – Noise reduction through multi-resolution analysis (MRA) is used widely in literature. In this problem, CA05-1.jpg is a noisy sample and our goal is noise reduction using Wavelet transform. Use 2D DWT to decompose image in 1 level by " haar ". Apply a threshold (T) on each detail part (horizontal, vertical and diagonal) as follow: • If the absolute value of pixel in detail image is less than T, replace it by zero • Else don't change it Set T to 2x of mean value in each detail part. So you must apply 3 different thresholds on horizontal, vertical and diagonal detail parts. Then reconstruct image using 2D IDWT and build a new image. What are differences between the first image and output image? Are the edges of image preserved in denoising process? Repeat this procedure again by different wavelets: " db5" and "sym20". Compare result
