Extended period of consolidation in 1969. Interpretations of culture revolution. Mistake that reflects Mao's misunderstanding of how economy works but party glosses over it. Cultural revolution was also about power and Mao reclaiming it. Also about culture, ideology and power. Maybe a synthesis of culture, ideaology and power. Teaching the masses the importance of revolution by making them experience it. Revolution was itself in danger of going off the rails. Even though publications justified and proclaimed the success of the cultural revolution. Mao's thinking: Concern about complacency in other leaders. Mao reiterates never forget class struggle. Polarizing consequences of economic retrenchment. Concern of lack of egalitarianism. Campaign to cultivate a revolutionary sucessor generation. Why did it take to 1966 to launch the Cultural Revolution. The Mao comeback? he was politically weakened and isolated prior to this due to past failures. Through process of economic recovery, numerous campaigns.
