Role of Government POLITICS IS ANY PROCESS BY WHICH PEOPLE REACH AGREEMENT ON ACTION WHEN THEY DISAGREE ON THE GOALS OF THE ACTION. The function of politics is to get people to agree to do something, even though their goals conflict and their reasons for agreeing to do it are all different. The point is to cooperate in action without having to agree on the purposes or goals of the action, without having to agree on the values involved.
