May 28, 2009 Dear President Barack Obama, I believe that change takes time, and during that time people must learn to be patient. But I want to suggest some ideas and offer some input on what I think. I’ve heard about your economic stimulus package, and I think it is a good idea if you would consider an increase in funding for scientific research. I understand that you are committed to increasing the funding that American science is in need for and though you may think that it is necessary to perform such actions in the future, I believe it is important to do so now. It provides a great opportunity to begin rebuilding American science and this chance cannot be missed. This not only benefits the basic science research in the United States. It helps

The salaries for the employees can be derived from grants to individual investigators or national laboratories. It creates an excellent source of jobs throughout local communities. Spending money on science will be only a smart part of a larger stimulus package. However, it will make an integral contribution to our future. Increases in science spending will provide a terrific stimulus, as the economy desperately needs one. I know it is your goal to restore funding for science to the needed levels to maintain the leadership of American scientific research and I believe doing this is a great idea and will help our economy get a head start.
