INDV 101 –Language Mini-Paper 2 Topic Guidelines (2 points) Subject to change as needed Language Policy and Language in the News Topic: You will address a controversial topic about language use or language policy. You will use course concepts and materials to present arguments on both sides of the issue. Possible issues that you could address include, but are not limited to, bilingual education, stigmatized dialects, such as “Ebonics,” legislation proposing to make English the official language of the United States, multi-lingualism, texting/IMing language, gender difference in language use, swearing, etc. Your topic proposal should be no longer than 1 double-spaced page. You must submit it as a .doc or .pdf (NOT .docx) to the appropriate D2L dropbox folder no later than 10pm on 12/31. No late topic proposals will be accepted for credit. Format requirements • Your proposal must be typed and double-spaced, using black text on a white background, using a standard font (10 or 12 point, Times New Roman, Arial, or similar). . • You must include your full name in the header of your topic proposal.
