Give an example of a positive and a negative sanction. 5pts. Sanctions, the response a person obtain when following or breaking norms, is essential in society because it shapes the way a person choose to live his or her life. A teacher who gives a student an “A” for excellent work is an example of a positive sanction. The student did well and the teacher approves the norm. The student works hard so he or she can receive the positive sanction instead of a negative sanction. People may choose to live their life working diligently because they want a positive sanction from their superiors. Positive sanctions can affect people’s determination and the willingness to surpass the expected. Negative sanctions are important in society because it can prevent people from improper behavior. People may be afraid to speed past the speed limit because they do not want a traffic ticket. Sanctions are essential in society because it urges people to do well for positive sanctions and prevent people to do bad so they would not have to suffer negative sanctions. 2.
