Tu 1 Claire Tu Craig Petersen Bio 6 2 September 2008 The planet Earth is portrayed as a spaceship in the Prologue. Both my dad (age 52) and I (age 17) feel that people in our society take Earth for granted because they fail to visualize it as a spaceship with limited resources. My dad believes that the United States is not at fault for using approximately 80% of the “supplies on board” because countries in poverty would do the same if they were in our situation. However, I believe that his rationale does not justify our wasteful habits. My dad believes that it would be difficult, almost impossible, for people from the “hold” to move to the “first-class section,” with the limited supplies and recycling capacity of our “craft.” On the contrary, I insist on the American Dream that people have the chance to rise. My dad and I do agree that the world’s overpopulation is damaging to our surrounding environments, and we concluded that our situation is not hopeless if people realize the grave matter at hand.
